What should a company profile video for a SIDCUL factory in Pantnagar show?

It should show a buyer, in about two minutes, that your plant can make their part reliably. Show the products, the machines, the quality checks, the people and the scale, in the order the work happens. Put certifications on screen. Leave out claims you cannot film, and shoot during a normal working shift.

A purchase manager in Gurugram or Pune has your quotation and three others. Before planning a plant visit, they open your website and look for proof that you are real, organised and big enough. Many SIDCUL units send a PDF brochure and a photo of the gate.

A short, well-made plant film answers that buyer before the visit. Here is what it should show, what to leave out, and how to shoot it in a working factory around Pantnagar, Sitarganj or Rudrapur.

01Who is a factory video actually for?

Decide this first, because it changes everything else. A film for a sourcing team is not the same as one for a job fair or a dealer meet.

ViewerWhat they want to knowWhat to show
Purchase or sourcing teamCan you make my part, at volume, on time?Machines, process flow, quality checks, capacity.
Auditor or vendor development teamIs the plant organised and safe?Housekeeping, safety gear, testing, records.
Dealers and distributorsIs this a brand worth stocking?Products, packaging, dispatch, the people behind it.
Job seekersIs this a good place to work? The team, training, canteen, shifts.

Most units need the first one most. Make that the main film. Then cut shorter versions for the others from the same footage, so one shoot does four jobs.

02What should the video show, and in what order?

Follow the work, the way a buyer would walk the shop floor. This order suits most plants:

  • The plant from outside and from height, so the scale is clear in the first few seconds.
  • Raw material arriving and being checked.
  • The main machines running, with close-ups of the operation that is hardest to copy.
  • Inspection and testing, with the gauges and instruments in frame.
  • Finished parts, packing and dispatch.
  • The people: the plant head, the quality head and skilled operators at work.
  • Certifications, the sectors you supply and contact details on screen at the end.

Quality checks are often the dullest footage on the day and the most persuasive in the edit. Do not skip them. A buyer who sees a proper inspection bench is more likely to trust the rest of what you say.

03How long should a company profile video be?

Shorter than most owners want. Two to three minutes is usually enough for the main film on your website and in emails. A buyer will watch a tight two minutes. Few will sit through a long tour set to background music.

From the same shoot, cut short vertical clips for LinkedIn, WhatsApp and Instagram. One clip per process works well: the CNC line, the paint shop, the testing lab. Sales staff can then send the right clip to the right buyer.

Do you need a voiceover? Often not. Clear text on screen, the plant head speaking for half a minute and the real sound of the machines can carry it. For export buyers and large OEMs, keep the on-screen text in English and let the plant head speak in whichever language feels natural.

04How do you shoot inside a working SIDCUL plant without stopping production?

With planning, and on your rules. We do not ask a plant to stop a line for a camera. This is how we usually approach factory shoots:

  • A walk-through a few days before with the plant head, to agree the shot list and the route.
  • Safety first: the crew wears your PPE and follows your walkways, permits and no-go areas.
  • Shooting during a normal shift, so the floor looks alive and output is not lost.
  • Confidential processes, customer drawings and branded parts kept out of frame.
  • Drone shots only after checking the airspace. Pantnagar airport sits close to the industrial area, so many sites need permission first.

Do the housekeeping the day before. Clear the gangways, wipe the machine guards, coil the loose cables and fix the leaking hose. A camera finds every oil patch. The same advice applies to shops, as our shoot checklist at How do I prepare my shop or restaurant for a photo and video shoot? explains.

05What mistakes do factories make with their videos?

  • Opening with a long drone shot and a slogan, and showing a machine only after a minute.
  • Saying quality, innovation and commitment instead of showing the inspection bench.
  • Claiming capacities or certifications the plant cannot prove on a visit.
  • Using stock footage of someone else's factory.
  • Filming in a shutdown week, so the floor looks empty.
  • Uploading the film to YouTube and never sending it to a buyer.

The last one is the most common. A film that nobody sees does nothing. Put it on the website's home page, add the link to the email signature, and send it in the first WhatsApp reply to every new enquiry.

06Where should the video go once it is made?

Decide where the film will live before the shoot, because it changes the framing.

  • Your website's home page and an about-the-plant page, so a buyer finds it without asking.
  • LinkedIn, posted from the company page and shared by the directors.
  • The sales team's WhatsApp, as short clips per product line.
  • Trade fair screens and vendor registration portals.

If the website still looks years old, a good film will not save it. The site has to load fast and say plainly what you make. If you have a stall this winter, our plan at IITF 2026: a content plan for Uttarakhand makers and factories taking a stall shows how to reuse the footage.

07Questions people ask

Can we use the same video for recruitment?

Partly. The plant footage works for both, but a recruitment version needs different scenes: the team, training, the canteen, the shift pattern and a few words from people who work there. Ask for both cuts when you plan the shoot, so the crew films the extra scenes on the same day.

Should a factory video be in Hindi or English?

Match the viewer. For national OEMs and export buyers, English text on screen is the safe choice. For dealers and distributors across North India, Hindi often lands better. Many plants keep English text on screen and let the plant head speak in the language they are most comfortable in.

How long does a factory shoot take?

It depends on the number of processes and locations, not the length of the final film. A single plant with a clear shot list can often be covered in part of a day. Several units, aerial shots and interviews need more. The walk-through before the shoot is where a realistic time gets agreed.

Do we need a drone shot?

It helps show scale, but it is not essential. Check first whether your site falls in a restricted drone zone, which is likely near Pantnagar airport. If a drone is not allowed, a high, wide shot from a rooftop or a water tank can do a similar job, with permission from the site.
