Winter break 2026: when should academies and play zones start selling winter camps?

Start in early November. Decide the camp, dates and fee by mid-November, shoot real sessions and coach introductions before December, announce in the first week of December, and run small ads to nearby parents until the break begins. Schools in the plains usually break around the last week of December, so check your local notices.

Every winter break, parents in Rudrapur, Haldwani and Kashipur face the same problem. The children are home, the mornings are foggy and cold, and screens win by default. Parents want something useful for their children to do, close to home, at a sensible hour.

That makes the winter break a good season for sports academies, dance and art classes, abacus and coding classes, and play zones. But parents book early, and they book what they have seen. If your camp appears for the first time in the week the break starts, the batches are already full somewhere else.

01Who should run a winter camp campaign?

Any business that can offer children a few useful hours a day during the break:

  • Badminton, cricket, skating, football and martial arts academies.
  • Dance, music, art, theatre and spoken English classes.
  • Abacus, coding, robotics and chess classes.
  • Indoor play zones and family restaurants with a kids' area.
  • Gyms and swimming centres with junior batches.
  • Coaching institutes offering a short foundation course for younger classes.

The camp also feeds your regular batches. A child who enjoys ten days on your court is the easiest admission you will get in January.

02When do schools in Kumaon break for winter?

It varies by school and by year, so check the notices of the main schools near you. In our experience, schools in the plains of Udham Singh Nagar and around Haldwani usually close around the last week of December and reopen in January. During a hard cold spell the break is sometimes extended at short notice.

Schools in the hills often have a longer winter break. Some families from the hills spend part of it with relatives in Haldwani or the plains, which adds children to your area.

Plan your camp dates around the schools your students actually attend. Keep a second set of dates ready in case the break is extended. Parents appreciate a camp that adjusts, and you get a second batch to sell.

03What makes parents choose a winter camp?

Parents are buying safety and good use of time first, and fun second. Show them what they worry about:

  • Timings that avoid the coldest, foggiest hours, usually late morning or afternoon.
  • An indoor or covered space, and how warm it is.
  • Who the coaches are, and how many children each one handles.
  • Pickup and drop, or at least safe parking and a clear waiting area.
  • What the child will be able to do by the end.
  • The fee, the dates and what is included, all in one place.

A showcase on the last day helps too. Parents love a short performance, a match or an exhibition, and it gives you the best footage of the season.

04What is the week-by-week plan for a winter camp?

Here is the plan we would follow, working back from a break that starts around the last week of December. Move the dates to match your schools.

WhenWhat to doWhat to post
First half of NovemberFix the camp format, age groups, batches, timings and feeNormal class reels, so the page looks active
Second half of NovemberShoot coach introductions, a sample session and willing parentsOne coach reel a week
First week of DecemberOpen registrations on WhatsApp with an early date to bookAnnouncement reel, poster, pinned post with every detail
Second and third weeks of DecemberRun small ads to parents nearby; send a note to past studentsA reel on what children learn, then a reminder of the dates
During the campFilm a few minutes every day, with consentDaily stories, one reel a week
Last day and early JanuaryHold the showcase and invite parentsShowcase reel, thank-you post, January batch offer

If your page has been quiet since summer, start the November posts now. An ad that sends parents to an empty page wastes money.

05What should we shoot for the camp?

Shoot your real space with real children, with written consent from parents. Stock photos of smiling children fool nobody, and parents in a small town will recognise your hall.

  • Each coach introducing themselves and the camp in under a minute, in Hindi.
  • A real session: warm-up, a drill, a small win, children laughing.
  • The space itself: the court, the hall, the heater, the washroom, the waiting area.
  • Two or three parents saying why they chose you, if they agree.
  • The showcase at the end, filmed for next winter's campaign.

We have filmed a badminton academy on court for Hans Sports, and a presenter-led tour of the kids' play zone for Kartar's Haveli, which you can see at the Kartar's Haveli case study. A friendly presenter walking parents through the space answers most questions before they ask.

06Should we run ads for a winter camp?

Yes, small and focused. Parents travel only a short distance in winter, so keep the area tight around your academy and the colonies your students come from. Use a coach reel or a session reel, not a poster crowded with text.

Send people to WhatsApp, with a saved reply that asks the child's age, the batch they want and a good time to call. Our guide at Should my Facebook and Instagram ads open WhatsApp or a lead form? explains when a form works better. Stop the ads once batches fill. Say so honestly on your page; a full batch is good proof for next year.

07How does AMS help academies and play zones?

Advance Media Solution is a seven-person studio in Metropolis City, Rudrapur. We have worked with Hans Sports, Hans Sports Academy, Battledore, HS Gym and other sports and education brands. We plan around dates, shoot on location and run the ads behind the reels.

Our page at Sports, Gym & Event Marketing Agency in Rudrapur explains how we work with academies, fairs and events. Retainers start from ₹35,000 a month plus GST.

If you want your winter camp full before the break, call +91 91059 43909 in the first half of November. If you are doing it yourself, fix your camp dates and fee this week. Everything else follows from that.

08Questions people ask

Should we offer an early-bird discount?

A small early-bird offer with a clear last date helps parents decide sooner and helps you plan batches. Keep it modest and honest. Avoid fake countdowns or 'last two seats' when they are not true. Parents talk to each other, and in a small town the truth comes out quickly.

Is it safe to post children's photos from the camp?

Only with written consent from parents, collected at registration. Prefer group shots and wide frames, and never put a child's full name with their face. If a parent asks for a photo to be removed, take it down the same day. Ask staff not to post camp photos from their own phones.

Can a camp work if we do not have our own building?

Yes. Many camps run in a school hall, a community centre, a banquet hall or a restaurant's party space in the quiet mornings. Settle the venue before you announce, and show it clearly in your reels. Parents want to know exactly where their child will be, and whether it is warm.

How do we turn camp children into regular students?

Offer a January batch at the showcase, while parents are proud and present. Send each family a short clip of their child, with consent, and a WhatsApp message about the regular timings. Many parents decide on the spot if the next step is simple and the fee is clear.
