Google now lets restaurants hide delivery app links: what should you check?
Since late October 2026, restaurants can turn off individual third-party ordering providers from the Food ordering section of their Google Business Profile, separately for pickup and delivery. Earlier, you had to ask each platform. Check which apps appear, hide any you have left, add your own ordering page, and keep the apps that still bring orders.
A customer in Haldwani searches your restaurant's name at nine at night. Your listing shows an order button. Behind it may sit a delivery app you stopped using last year. Until now, fixing that meant writing to the app and waiting.
Google has now put the switch in your own hands. Here is what changed, what it means for a restaurant, cafe or cloud kitchen in Kumaon, what to do this week, and what to leave alone.
01What exactly did Google change, and when?
On 28 October 2026, Search Engine Roundtable and Search Engine Journal reported that restaurants can now manage third-party ordering providers inside Google Business Profile. Lisa Landsman, Google's Head of Industry Engagement and SMB Success, announced it on LinkedIn. She wrote that restaurants can "manage and opt out of specific providers directly from your dashboard".
Before this, a restaurant that wanted a provider gone had to ask that provider to remove it, and then wait. Now you can do it yourself. You can also do it separately for pickup and for delivery.
Google's help page now lists the steps under Food ordering. It says providers that state they have an authorised relationship with your business are automatically listed on your profile. Google's partner rules put it plainly: "All partner integrations are enabled by default, but a merchant may disable a partner at any time."
02Does this work for restaurants in India?
It should, but check your own dashboard. When someone asked which countries have the setting, a Google product manager replied "all", according to Search Engine Journal. Google's help page sets no country limit on the switch.
The page does say the display differs by region. In some places, ordering options sit under an "Order online" button. In others, "Place an order" links may appear separately on the profile.
Foreign reports mention Uber Eats and DoorDash because American restaurants see those names. Your list will show whichever providers are linked to your business. It may include Zomato, Swiggy or a smaller ordering app. A family restaurant in Kichha that has never signed with any app may find nothing to hide, and that is fine.
03How do I turn off a delivery app on my Google listing?
These are the steps on Google's help page:
- Go to your Business Profile at business.google.com and select Food ordering.
- Select the third-party provider from the list.
- Select Show provider to customers.
- Turn Show for pickup, Show for delivery, or both, on or off.
- Select Save, then Confirm.
To hide a provider completely, turn off both switches. You can turn them back on anytime. Google says updates typically publish on Search and Maps "within a few hours".
The Remove link option is different. It only works for links you added yourself. If you turned food ordering off in the past, you first need to turn on Accept orders on your profile.
04Which ordering links should a local restaurant keep?
Open the list and sort each name into one of these:
| What you find | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| An app you no longer sell on | Customers tap and reach a closed or dead page | Hide it for pickup and delivery, then confirm your account there is closed |
| An app you use, but you do not do pickup | The listing promises something your counter does not offer | Turn off Show for pickup only |
| An app that still sends steady orders | Regular customers already use it | Leave it on and measure before you change anything |
| Your own ordering page | Direct orders with no app in between | Add it with Add a link, then try Set as preferred |
| A provider you do not recognise | Possibly an old signup or a partner of a partner | Hide it, then ask the provider why you are listed |
Google's page does not explain what preferred changes on screen. So after you set it, search for your restaurant on a phone and tap the button yourself. Do this on mobile data, not the shop's wifi. In Nainital and the hills, where the signal drops, a heavy ordering page simply will not load. A light page that opens fast on a mid-range phone is what we aim for when we do Website Design & Development in Rudrapur work.
05Should I hide Zomato and Swiggy to save commission?
In AMS's view, not on day one. The saving looks obvious, but the order may simply disappear. Landsman herself argued for keeping some providers listed. Her reason, as Search Engine Journal reported it, is that diners often order through apps where they already pay a subscription or have a card saved.
Think about who taps that button. A student near the Pantnagar campus who lives on a delivery app may never phone you. A family that has ordered from you for years will happily call. Those are different customers. So test it. This is what we tell restaurant owners to do first:
- Note your daily orders from each app for two weeks before changing anything.
- Ask every phone and WhatsApp customer one question: where did you find our number?
- Hide one provider at a time, never all of them together.
- Compare total orders over the next two weeks, not just app orders.
- Do not compare a normal week with a festival week or a wedding-season Saturday.
Hiding a link on Google does not end your contract with the app. You stay on the app, and people who open it can still find you.
06What should I do this week?
This is a short job for the owner or manager. Do it before the winter and New Year rush.
- Open Food ordering and write down every provider listed, with both switches.
- Search your restaurant on a phone, on Search and on Maps, and tap the order button as a customer would.
- Hide the apps you have left, then tell each one to remove you. Google's partner rules say merchants who suspend or discontinue a service must be removed from a provider's feed within 5 business days.
- Add your own ordering page if it works properly on a phone, and test it.
- Check that your phone number and WhatsApp on the listing are correct, since many local orders start there.
- Set a monthly reminder to recheck the list. Providers are on by default, so new names can appear.
If you run more than one outlet, do this for each branch. Search Engine Journal notes that the announcement did not say whether bulk changes are possible. If New Year is on your mind, our plan for New Year's Eve 2026: when should restaurants and banquet halls start selling the night? covers the timing.
07What else changed, and what should I not panic about?
One more change arrived on 6 November. Search Engine Roundtable reported that Google has expanded messaging on Google Maps for Android and iOS, with a Message button next to Call. It sends customers to WhatsApp or SMS. Our note on the Google now shows a WhatsApp button on business listings: what should you set up? covers the setup.
Now the calm part. This setting changes which ordering links appear. As TechWyse points out, nothing in the announcement shows any effect on rankings, clicks or orders. Do not expect to climb on Maps because you tidied a list. In our view, your reviews, menu and photos still do more of the selling. If your dishes look dull, start with How do I get good food photos for Zomato and Swiggy for my restaurant in Haldwani?.
We do not sell Google listing management at Advance Media Solution, and this is a job any owner can do. What we do for restaurants is food shoots, reels, ads and fast websites. We have shot kitchen close-ups for the menu at Kartar's Haveli, for example. If you want that side handled, see Restaurant Marketing Agency in Rudrapur & Kumaon or call +91 91059 43909.
08Questions people ask
Will hiding Zomato on Google remove my restaurant from Zomato?
No. The setting controls what shows on your Google listing in Search and Maps. It does not change your account with the app. If you want to leave an app, close or pause your account with them separately. Then check the listing again, and ask them to remove you if the link keeps coming back.
Can I bring a hidden provider back later?
Yes. Google's help page says you can turn the switches back on at any time. Open Food ordering, select the provider, and choose Show provider to customers. Turn pickup or delivery back on, then save and confirm. Updates typically appear within a few hours, so check the listing later the same day.
Can I add my WhatsApp number as an ordering link?
Google's help page describes custom links as web pages where customers can place orders. It does not mention WhatsApp links. In AMS's view, a simple menu page with a WhatsApp order button is a safer link than a bare chat link. Your WhatsApp number can still reach customers through the chat option on your listing.
My listing shows no Food ordering option. What now?
First make sure you are signed in to the Google account that manages the listing, and that your business category is a food business. If you turned food ordering off earlier, turn on Accept orders on your profile. If it is still missing, use the Contact us link under Need more help on Google's page.
