Why don't my Facebook ad leads pick up the phone, and how do I fix it?

Most Facebook leads do not answer because the form was too easy to fill, the call came hours later, or an unknown number looked like spam. Fix it by adding a review step and a real question to the form, sending a WhatsApp message first, and calling within the hour.

You ran the ad. The sheet filled up with names. Your staff started calling, and many numbers rang out, were switched off, or said, 'Maine toh koi form nahi bhara.' By evening you have decided Facebook ads are a scam.

Usually they are not. In most accounts we open, the leads are real people, and the trouble sits somewhere between the form and the first call. Here is where it breaks, and how to fix it before you spend more.

01Why do people fill a Facebook form and then not pick up?

A Facebook instant form is built for speed. It opens inside the app with the person's name and number already filled in, so a tap or two sends it. That is good for the count on your sheet and bad for what each entry means. These are the usual reasons nobody answers:

  • They tapped without thinking. Scrolling at night, they liked the reel and hit submit. By morning it is forgotten.
  • The number is old. Facebook fills in whatever the profile holds, and many profiles were made years ago.
  • Your call looks like spam. Many people ignore an unknown mobile number in the middle of the day.
  • You called too late. Two days later, they have spoken to someone else or lost interest.
  • The offer pulled the wrong people. 'Free consultation' or 'win a gift' brings people who wanted the free thing.
  • The ad reached people too far away. Someone in another district cannot come to your shop, and they know it when you call.

Notice that only part of this is about fake entries. The rest is in your hands.

02Are my Facebook leads fake, or is something else wrong?

Some bad entries are normal in any campaign. Bots do exist, but a recent upGrowth guide on this problem calls them a smaller factor than auto-fill and accidental taps. What you hear on the call tells you which problem you have:

What you seeWhat it usually meansWhat to change
Number not in service, or wrong digitsAn old number from the profile, or a junk entryMake people type their number, or use a WhatsApp ad
Rings and rings, never answeredUnknown number, or you called too lateWhatsApp first, then call within the hour
'I never filled any form'An accidental tap on a one-tap formSwitch to the Higher intent form and add a question
Answers, but only wants the free thingThe offer is pulling the wrong crowdChange the offer and show a starting price in the ad
Answers, but lives too far awayThe location setting is too wideTighten the area and ask for the area in the form

Keep a simple sheet for two weeks with four columns: called, answered, visited, bought. One look tells you which row is yours. Do not judge an ad by its cost per lead until you have that sheet.

03How fast should I call a Facebook lead?

The same hour, if you can. The person still remembers the ad and may still have the app open. After a day, you are a stranger with a sales call. This is the routine we set up with clients:

  • Turn on lead alerts, so entries reach a phone someone actually watches, not an email nobody opens.
  • Send a WhatsApp message within minutes, from the business number: who you are, which ad, one question.
  • Call about ten minutes later. They have now seen your name, so you are no longer a random number.
  • Open the call with the ad: 'Sir, aapne Facebook par hamare sofa ke ad par form bhara tha.'
  • Try three times across different days and times, including one evening. Then stop.

Evenings matter here. A shopkeeper or a parent is often free only after 7 pm, which is exactly when your staff has gone home. Somebody has to own that call.

04How do I change the form so fewer wrong people fill it?

Meta lets you choose how much effort a form asks for. The default, More volume, is built to be quick on a phone. Higher intent is the same form with a review step, so the person checks their details and confirms before sending. If a person will call these leads by hand, we usually pick Higher intent. Then tighten the rest:

  • Add one real question with set answers: which area, which product, or when they plan to buy.
  • Write the first screen plainly, including what happens next: 'Our team will call you from this number today.'
  • Show a starting price in the ad if your business allows it. Those who cannot afford it will not fill the form, which saves your staff a call.
  • Write the form in Hindi if your customers read Hindi. A question they understand gets a real answer.

Expect fewer entries on the sheet. Judge the change by how many real conversations you get, not by the count.

05Should I stop using forms and run WhatsApp ads instead?

Often, yes, especially for shops, restaurants and clinics. When someone taps a WhatsApp ad, they start the chat themselves, so you already have a live number and an open conversation. There is no form to forget. The trade-off is that someone must reply quickly through the day, because a chat goes cold within hours.

Forms still suit some businesses. A builder or a school that wants a proper sales call may prefer a filtered form with two good questions. We compare the two in Should my Facebook and Instagram ads open WhatsApp or a lead form?. If you are unsure, run each for a short period with the same reel, and let your sheet decide.

06What does this look like for a shop or clinic in Rudrapur or Haldwani?

On a busy day in a Rudrapur showroom, nobody is looking at a lead sheet. The owner is with a customer, the phone is on the counter, and entries pile up until closing time. So the real question is not which form to use. It is who calls, and when.

Give one named person the job, with a fixed time in the day. It can be the front desk or a family member. Give them a simple Hindi script, and show them the ad itself so they know what the customer saw. At a clinic in Haldwani, the receptionist should call, not the doctor between patients.

Remember that most customers in Kumaon will not buy on the first call. They want to come and see. So the goal of the call is a visit: 'Aap kab aa sakte hain?' Ask for a day, give the landmark, and send the location pin on WhatsApp.

That is what quality looks like at the counter. As Mr. Aryan Aggarwal of Vim Developers told us: "Since the launch of our new website and social strategy, the quality of our walk-in leads has shifted completely."

07What mistakes do owners make when leads go cold?

  • Judging the ad by cost per lead. A cheap lead who never answers is the expensive one.
  • Buying a data list to make up the numbers. Those people never asked to hear from you.
  • Sending the same message to the whole sheet every week. People mark you as spam, and then nothing gets through.
  • Changing the reel before fixing the call. If people answer and say no, then look at the ad.
  • Leaving the sheet for the weekend. Saturday's leads are cold by Monday.

When a new client brings us this problem, we ask for the lead sheet before we touch the ads. Often the fix is in the form and the first call, and sometimes the reel needs work too. At Advance Media Solution, the same team shoots the reel and runs the spend: Facebook Ads Agency in Rudrapur | Meta Ads. Retainers start from ₹35,000 a month plus GST, as set out at Digital Marketing Packages in Rudrapur from ₹35,000. If you want a second pair of eyes on your sheet, call +91 91059 43909.

08Questions people ask

How many times should I call a Facebook lead before giving up?

Three tries is a fair limit, spread across different days and times, with one in the evening. Send a WhatsApp message before the first call. After that, leave a polite note saying they can message you whenever they are ready, and stop calling. More calls rarely help and can annoy people.

Do I need a CRM to manage my leads?

Not at the start. A shared Google Sheet or a simple register works if one person updates it every day. What matters is a record of who was called, who answered, who visited and who bought. Consider software only when the sheet has become too big for one person to manage.

What time of day should I call leads in a small town?

Avoid the busiest hours of your own customers. Shopkeepers are often free late in the morning or after closing, and parents and office workers after 7 pm. Your sheet will show the pattern within a couple of weeks, so note the time of every answered call and follow it.

Why do people say they never filled the form?

Often they are telling the truth as they remember it. The form opens with their details already filled, and a quick thumb can send it while scrolling. A review step and a question they must answer reduce these. Stay polite on the call, because they may still be interested once you explain.
