Guide
Can I use Bollywood songs and trending audio in my business reels?
Usually not safely. Meta's music guidelines restrict music used for commercial purposes unless you hold the licence, and many business accounts see a smaller music library. A film song on a shop's reel can be muted or removed, and it should never go into an ad. Use licensed or royalty-free tracks, or real sound and a clear voice.
Every owner has seen it. A rival's reel with the latest wedding song gets lakhs of views, while your account shows a short list of tracks nobody has heard. So the question comes up on almost every first call we take: can we just add the song?
The honest answer is that a business account is not a personal account. The rules on music are different, and the risk lands on your page, not on the song.
01Why can't my business account use the song I want?
Music on Instagram and Facebook is licensed by the record labels for certain uses. Meta's music guidelines say that using music for commercial or non-personal purposes is restricted unless you have the right licences. A shop, clinic or restaurant page selling something is commercial by nature.
That is why many business accounts see a smaller music library than personal ones. It is not a bug, and it is not your phone. It is the platform limiting what a business can safely use.
Some owners switch to a creator account to get the full library back. In AMS's view that only changes the menu you see. It does not give your business a licence to use a film song to sell sarees or thalis.
02What happens if I use a film song anyway?
Sometimes nothing happens for a while, which is why so many local pages do it. But Meta's guidelines are clear about the possible outcomes:
- The reel can be muted, so it plays in silence.
- The reel can be blocked in some places or removed altogether.
- Repeated problems can lead to action against the page itself.
- An ad with unlicensed music can be rejected, or stopped after you have paid for the shoot.
The bigger cost is quieter. A reel built around someone else's song is wasted the day the song is removed. If it was your best festive reel, you lose it at the moment you need it most. We would rather build reels that you can run, boost and reuse for years.
03What music can a business safely use in reels?
There are good options, and most of them cost little or nothing:
| Option | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Meta Sound Collection | Background music for reels and ads on Facebook and Instagram | Check the licence note on each track before use |
| The music your business account offers | Everyday organic reels | What is offered can change, so check before boosting |
| A paid music library | Brand films, ads, websites and YouTube | Read what the licence covers and keep the receipt |
| Original sound | Kitchens, workshops, events, showrooms | Record clean audio; wind and traffic ruin it |
| A voice-over or the owner speaking | Explainers, offers, product details | Clear Hindi beats a trending track for most local buyers |
| A jingle made for you | A sound people link to your brand | Get ownership of the music in writing |
For most of our clients the strongest audio is not music at all. It is the tandoor, the loom, the machine, or a person explaining something in plain Hindi.
04Do business reels work without a trending song?
Yes, and often better. Trending audio helps a creator reach strangers across India. A shop in Rudrapur or a clinic in Haldwani does not need strangers in Pune. It needs people within a short drive who will visit, call or message.
Those people respond to things they recognise: the owner's face, a familiar street, a price, a dish, a clear offer. A lot of them watch with the sound off at work or in the shop, so text on screen matters more than the song.
Our post at Should my business reels be in Hindi, English or Hinglish? covers choosing the language of your voice and captions. When we cut reels, music sits under the voice, never over it. More on how we plan and edit monthly reels is at Content Creation Agency in Rudrapur | Monthly Reels.
05Can I use a song in an ad if it is already on my reel?
Treat ads as a stricter case. An ad is paid commercial use in its plainest form. Even if a song sat on your organic reel without trouble, do not boost or run that reel as an ad.
This matters because the best ads are often reels that already worked. When we ran Bluwalker's apparel drop, the reel itself became the ad without a rebuild. That only works if the music was cleared from the start. So when a reel might become an ad, we choose licensed music or none at the edit stage, not after it goes viral.
- Decide before the shoot whether the reel might be boosted.
- Keep a copy of every reel without music, in case you need to swap the track.
- Note where each track came from and what its licence allows.
06What about music playing in the background of my video?
This catches many restaurants, gyms and wedding venues. If a DJ, a speaker or the radio is playing a film song while you film, that song is in your reel. Platforms can detect it just as they detect a song you added.
When we shoot in a venue, we ask staff to pause the music for the takes that need clean sound. At events where the music cannot stop, such as a wedding in a banquet hall, we keep the live sound low in the edit and lay the voice or a licensed track on top. Gyms and cafes can simply switch off the speaker for ten minutes while the reel is shot.
07How does AMS handle music for clients?
Advance Media Solution is a seven-person studio in Metropolis City, Rudrapur, and we edit reels every week for 75+ brands. Our rule is simple: every reel we deliver should be safe to post, boost and reuse.
That means licensed or platform-cleared music, a lot of real sound, and the owner's voice where it helps. If you want reels that do not depend on a borrowed song, call +91 91059 43909. Or look at your last ten reels this week and check how many would still make sense with the music removed.
08Questions people ask
Is it fine if I credit the singer or the film in the caption?
No. A credit is polite, but it is not a licence. The question is whether you have the right to use the music for a business purpose, and a caption credit does not give you that. Use the music your account offers, Meta's Sound Collection, or a track you have licensed.
Is a short clip of a song allowed?
Meta's music guidelines do not give a safe number of seconds. A short clip of a film song is still the song, and it can still be detected and muted. If you need a recognisable tune, use a licensed version or commission something original that does the same job.
Is royalty-free music the same as free music?
Not always. Royalty-free means you do not pay each time it is played, but you may still need to buy or accept a licence, and some tracks have limits on ads or on certain platforms. Read the licence note for each track and keep a record of where it came from.
Will my page get banned for using a film song?
A single reel is more likely to be muted or removed than the page banned. But repeated problems can lead to action against the page, and a business page carries your reviews, followers and history. It is not worth risking that for one trending song.
