Should I run Facebook ads all year, or only in festival season?

Most local businesses should spend hardest in festival and wedding months, then keep a small, steady budget running in between instead of switching off. The off-season ad does a different job: it keeps you in front of people who already know you and warms up the next season. Stop completely only if your business genuinely closes or cannot serve.

Every year the same thing happens. A shop in Rudrapur or Haldwani spends well on Facebook and Instagram ads for three weeks before Diwali. Sales come. The morning after Diwali, the ads go off. Then, a week before the wedding season or Holi, the owner starts again from nothing and wonders why the first days feel so slow.

Turning ads off is not always wrong. But switching between full spend and zero is usually the most expensive way to advertise. Here is how to decide.

01Is it worth running ads when it is not festival season?

Usually yes, at a lower budget and with a different aim. Festival ads ask people to buy now. Off-season ads keep people remembering you, so they think of you when they are ready.

Most local purchases are not decided in one day. A family buying a bed, booking a banquet hall or choosing a school sees you several times first. If your ads only appear for three weeks a year, you are a stranger again each season.

There is also a quieter reason. Meta's system learns who responds to your ads. When you stop for months, that learning goes stale. In our experience, a restart after a long gap usually has a slower first week while the system finds its feet again.

In AMS's experience, a small steady budget makes festival spend work harder, because more people already know your name when the big push starts.

02When does it make sense to stop completely?

Sometimes pausing is the right call. Stop, or cut to almost nothing, if:

  • Your shop is actually closed, or you are out of the stock you advertise.
  • Nobody can answer calls and WhatsApp messages for a while.
  • Your business is truly seasonal, like a winter-only stall or a one-off event.
  • The ads were not bringing enquiries even in peak season. Fix the ad first; more money will not help.
  • Cash is tight and the money is needed elsewhere.

Pausing is not a failure. The mistake is pausing by habit, without checking whether the off-season ad could have paid for itself.

03How should the budget change through the year?

Think of three levels, not two. The exact amount depends on your business, but the pattern holds for most shops, restaurants and showrooms in Udham Singh Nagar.

PeriodSpend levelMain job of the ad
Two to four weeks before a festival or wedding windowHighestOffer, new stock, booking or visit now
The festival week itselfHigh, then easingLast-minute buyers, timings, location
A week or two afterMediumPeople who watched or messaged but did not buy
Quiet months in betweenLow but steadyReels that show who you are and what you sell

The quiet months are not dead. In Kumaon there is almost always a next moment: weddings after Diwali, winter stock, New Year, Lohri, Holi, admissions, Rakhi. Use the low months to film for them.

04What should an off-season ad say?

Not "Sale, sale, sale". Discounts in a quiet month train customers to wait. Off-season ads work better when they show something useful or real:

  • A reel of the owner explaining how to choose the product.
  • Behind the scenes: the kitchen, the workshop, new stock being unpacked.
  • A happy customer, with permission, saying what they bought.
  • A reminder of what is coming, such as wedding orders or a new batch.
  • Plain information: timings, parking, delivery area, WhatsApp number.

Show these to people near you, and to people who watched your festival reels or messaged you. Those viewers already know you. A small budget goes a long way with them.

Our post Should I boost my Instagram post or run ads from Ads Manager? explains how to set this up properly in Ads Manager instead of boosting at random.

05What mistakes do owners make with seasonal ads?

  • Starting festival ads a few days before the festival, when every competitor is already running.
  • Using the same poster for every festival, with only the greeting changed.
  • Switching off the day after Diwali, when people who saw the ads are still deciding.
  • Never looking at which ads brought calls, so next year starts from guesswork.
  • Running ads to a page that nobody replies to on a festival evening.

That last one matters most. A festival ad that brings a pile of messages nobody answers until the next morning wastes money. Decide who replies before you spend.

06What does always-on look like in practice?

Always-on does not mean big spend every day. It means the account never goes fully cold, and the content keeps flowing.

For one AMS client, Playmore, the result in our records reads ₹20L+ in "sales per month, driven by an always-on social and paid engine." That is one business, in its own category, and we do not promise the same for anyone. But it shows the idea: steady content, steady ads, and bigger pushes on top.

For Bluwalker, the reel that earned 3M+ views in a month became the ad itself, and the brand has done ₹8 lakh+ in sales every month since. You can read how in the Bluwalker case study.

For most local clients, our approach is simple. One shoot a month gives the reels. The best of them run as ads all year at a low level, and the budget rises for each festival and wedding window.

07How does AMS plan ad spend across the year?

On the first call, we ask three things. When are your busiest months? Who answers messages? What did last year's ads actually bring? From that, Advance Media Solution draws up a simple year plan: the peaks, the steady months, and what we will film for each.

Retainers start from ₹35,000 a month plus GST, with ad spend paid directly to Meta. The Facebook Ads Agency in Rudrapur | Meta Ads page explains how we run the ads.

08Questions people ask

How long before Diwali or a wedding date should ads start?

Two to four weeks before is a sensible window for most shops and showrooms. People start comparing early, and late starters compete with everyone at once. If you kept a small budget running through the quiet months, the first festival week also starts warmer, because more people already know you.

Is boosting a post in the off-season enough?

It is better than nothing, but boosting gives you fewer choices about who sees the ad and what they are asked to do. For a steady low budget, Ads Manager lets you reach people who watched your reels or messaged you, which is where off-season money works best.

Should I give discounts in the quiet months to get sales?

Be careful. Regular off-season discounts teach customers to wait for them. A genuine clearance of old stock is fine, and so is a small offer for repeat customers. But most off-season ads should show your product, your people and what is coming next, not a price cut.

Does this apply to Google ads too?

Partly. Google Search ads catch people already searching, so demand drives them more than habit. If people search for what you sell all year, such as a clinic, a repair service or a coaching institute, keep them running. If searches only come in season, you can scale Google down more safely than Meta.
