Guide
How do I get more cake orders for my bakery in Kashipur?
Post your own cakes, clearly lit, with a starting price, the weight, whether it is eggless, and how many hours' notice you need. Make ordering on WhatsApp easy, with a simple catalogue and a fixed set of questions. Then plan Christmas, New Year and wedding orders a few weeks ahead, and ask every happy customer to tag you.
Most cake orders in Kashipur start the same way. Someone has a birthday tomorrow. They open Instagram or WhatsApp, look at two or three bakeries, and message whoever looks clear and quick. The cake itself is often decided in ten minutes.
If your page shows blurry photos with no price, and your WhatsApp reply comes three hours later, that order goes to the bakery down the road. Here is what to fix.
01What do people check before ordering a cake?
A cake buyer has a date, a budget and usually a small worry. Before they message, they want to know:
- What your cakes actually look like, not catalogue pictures.
- A rough price for a half kilo and a one kilo cake.
- Whether you make eggless cakes, and whether the eggless ones look as good.
- How much notice you need for a custom design or a photo cake.
- Whether you deliver, to which areas, and until what time.
- Whether other families were happy with the taste, not only the look.
Eggless matters a lot in this region. Many families will not order otherwise. Say it clearly on every post where it applies, and keep a separate highlight for eggless cakes.
02What should a bakery post on Instagram?
Show your real cakes, in good light, the way customers will see them. In AMS's experience, these formats work for bakeries:
| Content | Why it works | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Finished cake, close up | Shows the finish and size | Daylight near the window, plain background |
| Cutting the cake | Shows the inside and the softness | One slow shot, no filters |
| Decorating in the kitchen | Shows skill and hygiene | Clean counter, gloves, caps |
| Customer's celebration | Proof from a real family | Only with permission, ask them to tag you |
| This week's ready cakes | Gives a reason to order today | Post in the morning with prices |
Light matters more than the phone. Bakery counters are usually lit with tube lights that make cream look grey. Our Photographer in Rudrapur for Products, Food & Shops page shows how we light food for the feed.
03How should cake ordering work on WhatsApp?
Most custom orders are lost in the chat, not on Instagram. Make it simple:
- Use WhatsApp Business, with a catalogue of your regular cakes and their prices.
- Keep a saved reply that asks the same questions: date, time, weight, flavour, eggless or not, message on the cake, pickup or delivery.
- Confirm the order in one message with all the details, and ask for an advance for custom cakes.
- Send a photo of the finished cake before it leaves.
- Next day, ask how it was, and ask for a review or a tag.
One person should own the orders phone. When three staff answer from memory, a name gets spelt wrong or a delivery time gets missed, and that customer does not come back.
04How do I plan for Christmas, New Year and wedding orders?
These weeks bring plum cakes, party cakes, gift boxes and bulk orders for offices and functions. Most bakeries start posting about them a few days before, when people have already ordered elsewhere.
- Early December: shoot your Christmas and New Year range in one session.
- Second week of December: open pre-orders, with a last date to order.
- From mid-December: post daily, with what is still available.
- Christmas and New Year's Eve: post pickup timings and a final call for orders.
- Wedding months: post sample wedding and engagement cakes, and dessert counters if you do them.
Offices, schools and factories in and around Kashipur often order in bulk for year-end functions. A simple post and a WhatsApp message to past corporate buyers in early December can bring those orders in early.
05Should my bakery be on Zomato and Swiggy too?
For ready cakes, pastries and snacks, food apps can bring orders from people who do not know you yet. For custom cakes, most orders still come directly on WhatsApp and calls, and you keep the full margin.
If you do list on the apps, the photos matter more than anything else. A dark menu photo loses to a bright one every time. Our post How do I get good food photos for Zomato and Swiggy for my restaurant in Haldwani? explains how to get app photos right.
Whichever you use, put your own WhatsApp number on your Instagram, your packaging and your bill. Every repeat order that comes direct is one you do not share with an app.
06What mistakes do bakeries make online?
- Posting cake designs downloaded from the internet that you have not made.
- Writing "DM for price" on every post.
- Not saying which cakes are eggless.
- Hiding the location, so new customers cannot find the shop.
- Posting only on festivals and going quiet in between.
- Using heavy filters that make the cake look different from what arrives.
The last one causes the most complaints. A cake that looks pink on Instagram and arrives peach feels like a broken promise, even when it tastes good. Post true colours.
07How does AMS work with bakeries and food brands?
Advance Media Solution is a seven-person studio in Rudrapur, about an hour from Kashipur. We have worked with food brands including Narad G Heritage Bake House, The Royal Bite and Kartar's Haveli. For The Royal Bite we shot food close-ups for the feed.
For a bakery, we usually shoot in one morning before the shop gets busy: the range, the decorating, the cutting shots. That gives a month of reels and posts. We then post, run small ads around the shop and help you set up WhatsApp replies. Retainers start from ₹35,000 a month plus GST. Our Restaurant Marketing Agency in Rudrapur & Kumaon page covers how we work with food businesses.
If you run a bakery in Kashipur and want to plan the December season, call +91 91059 43909. Even if you do it yourself, start by posting your eggless range with prices.
08Questions people ask
Should I show cake prices on Instagram?
Yes, at least a starting price for common sizes. Most cake buyers have a budget and a deadline. If they cannot see a price, many will message someone else rather than wait for your reply. Custom designs can say "from" a price, with the final amount depending on size and decoration.
Do ads work for a small bakery?
Small, local ads can work well. Run your best cake reel to people within a few kilometres of the shop, with a WhatsApp button. Raise the budget before Christmas, New Year and the wedding months. Ads will not fix slow replies or poor photos, so sort those first.
How often should a bakery post?
A few posts a week is plenty if they show real cakes clearly. A morning story with the day's ready cakes and prices often brings more orders than a polished post. In December and the wedding months, post more often, and keep your highlights for eggless, birthday and custom cakes up to date.
Can I repost photos customers share of my cake?
Yes, with their permission. A cake on a real family's table, shared by them, is strong proof for new buyers. Ask politely in the follow-up message, credit them, and never repost photos of children without a parent saying yes.
