Guide
Do I need a website if my business already has Instagram?
Not always on day one. If customers walk in, call or order on WhatsApp, Instagram and a complete Google Business Profile can carry you for a while. You need a website when people search for what you sell, compare you with others, need details you keep repeating, or when your ads need a page you control.
Many owners in Rudrapur and Haldwani built their business on Instagram. The page gets enquiries, the DMs are busy, and a website sounds like an expense with no clear return. "Insta pe sab ho jaata hai" is a fair point, up to a point.
The honest answer depends on how your customers find you and what they need to know before they buy. Here is how to tell which side of the line you are on.
01When is Instagram enough on its own?
For some businesses, a good Instagram page and a complete Google Business Profile do most of the work. That is usually true when:
- Most customers already know you, live nearby or come through referrals.
- You sell a few things that are easy to show in a reel, like food, clothes or a salon service.
- Orders and bookings happen on WhatsApp or at the counter.
- You do not run ads, or the ads only send people to a WhatsApp chat.
- Nobody has ever asked you for a website link.
A new cafe in Kichha or a boutique in Gadarpur can start this way. Put the money into good content and a fast reply habit first. We would rather tell an owner to wait on a website than build one that sits unused.
02When does a business outgrow an Instagram-only setup?
The signs are usually clear once you look for them:
- People search on Google for what you sell, not for your name, and find someone else.
- You answer the same questions in DMs every day: price list, menu, sizes, location, timings.
- Customers from outside your town want to check you before paying an advance.
- A company, school or government buyer asks for your website or a business email.
- You run ads and want people to land on a page built to convert, not a profile grid.
- You sell many products, and the grid has become impossible to browse.
If three or more of these sound familiar, the website is no longer a luxury. It is the page that answers questions so your staff do not have to.
03What does a website do that Instagram cannot?
Instagram is where people discover you. A website is where they check you. The two do different jobs:
| Job | Website | |
|---|---|---|
| Being found on Google for a service or product | Rarely | Yes, one page per service |
| Showing new work quickly | Very good | Slower to update |
| Holding a full menu, price list or catalogue | Hard to browse | Easy to read and share |
| Being yours if an account is hacked or blocked | No | Yes, if the domain is in your name |
| A landing page for ads and enquiry forms | Limited | Built for it |
| Looking credible to a buyer who has never met you | Helps | Expected |
Search is also changing. In October 2026, Google said it would test a section in AI Mode that highlights official websites when only one or two exist for a task. In AMS's view, that is one more small sign that an official site of your own will matter more, not less.
04What if my Instagram account gets hacked or disabled?
This is the risk owners think about only after it happens. An account can be hacked, locked after a wrong report, or restricted for a reason nobody explains. Years of posts and every customer who found you there are suddenly out of reach.
A website does not remove that risk, but it limits the damage. Your domain, your phone number and your address stay in one place you control. Customers who search for you still find you while the account is being recovered.
Two habits help either way. Keep your Instagram login in the owner's hands, with two-factor authentication on. We explain why in Should I give my Instagram password to a marketing agency?. And register your domain in your own name, never in a designer's.
05Is a simple one-page website enough?
Often, yes, at the start. The right size depends on what you sell:
- One page: who you are, what you offer, photos, timings, map and a WhatsApp button. Enough for a salon, clinic or small shop.
- A business site with a page per service: for clinics, builders, coaching centres and factories that are searched by service.
- A catalogue or online store: for brands that ship, or showrooms with large ranges.
Whatever the size, it must load fast on a mid-range phone on mobile data. Most of your visitors will arrive from an Instagram bio link or a Google search on the move. A slow, heavy site loses them before the first photo appears.
Business websites from AMS start at ₹50,000 plus GST. What that covers, and what changes the cost, is on Website Design Cost in Rudrapur: From ₹50,000.
06What mistakes do owners make when they finally build one?
The website itself is rarely the problem. These are:
- The domain and hosting are registered in the developer's name, not the owner's.
- Nobody updates it, so it shows last year's prices and an old number.
- There is no WhatsApp button, so phone visitors have no easy way to ask.
- It uses stock photos instead of the real shop, team and products.
- The Instagram bio still links to WhatsApp only, so nobody ever sees the site.
A plain website that is accurate and fast beats a fancy one that is out of date.
07How does AMS answer this on a first call?
We ask where your last twenty enquiries came from, and what each customer asked before buying. If the answer is mostly walk-ins and WhatsApp, we may tell you to focus on content first and come back to the website later. If people are searching, comparing and asking the same questions, the website moves up the list.
When we do build one, we use the same photos and reels we shoot for your social media, so the site and the page look like one business. You can see how we work on Website Design & Development in Rudrapur.

08Questions people ask
Can't I just use my Google Business Profile as my website?
It helps a lot for local searches, and every business should complete it. But it holds limited information, you cannot design it, and Google sets the rules for what goes on it. A website can hold your full menu, catalogue or service pages, and it is a page you control. The two work best together.
Will a website bring me customers by itself?
No website brings customers just by existing. It works when something sends people to it: a Google search, an Instagram bio link, an ad or a WhatsApp message. Its job is to answer their questions and make it easy to call or message. Think of it as your counter online, not a hoarding.
Should my website have the same content as my Instagram?
Use the same photos and voice, but organise them differently. Instagram is a stream of recent posts. A website should be arranged by what people need: services, prices or menu, location, timings and how to contact you. You can embed a few reels, but the pages should stand on their own.
How long does it take to build a small business website?
A simple site can be ready in a few weeks if the content is ready. The usual delay is not the build. It is waiting for photos, prices and service details from the owner. Have those written down before you start, and decide who will approve the pages, to keep it moving.
